Enrollment 

How do I start?

  1.  Verify you meet our pre-enrollment qualifications.
  2. Fill out our Enrollment Application.
  3. Email us a photocopy of your government issued ID and your High School Diploma (or High School Transcripts).
  4. Admissions will set up either a Facetime or Skype video call with you. This part of enrollment is to verify that you are who you say you are. With the program being majority online and it being a massage therapy program, it is a requirement.
  5. After the verification call, there are 4 documents that you will need to fill out and a payment of $150.00 must be made to purchase the Online Access Code. 
  6. Lastly, our admissions team will work with you on setting up a Tuition Payment Contract through our Tuition Financing Company. See Tuition section for more details.

How soon can I begin? 

We offer program start dates at the beginning of the month and the middle of the month. For specific dates please reach back out to us and let us know when you were wanting to start. We will be able to assist you with specific availability for that time.

Can I transfer credits in from another program/school? 

If you would like to transfer credits over to our Massage Therapy Program, please CONTACT ADMISSIONS to send us a copy of your transcripts. Our Director of Education, Jason, will be able to further assist you once we receive your transcripts.

What materials do I need to purchase for school?

Each student will be provided with an e-textbook, which is included with their online program, a PMA T-shirt, Lotion Bottle, Lotion Holster and a portable Massage Table, at no additional cost. As a student, you are only responsible for lotions/creams and/or any sheets you would like to use with your massage table.

Online Massage Program Questions

How does the online program work? 

We have spoken to many individuals that were extremely interested in becoming a Massage Therapist; however, they did not have the means to go to a class 4-5 days during the week as they had to work or have children at home. To help solve this problem, we came up with a way to streamline the textbook, homework assignments, quizzes and tests, making it accessible to students online when they are available. Throughout the program there are benchmarks where “Hands-On Training” is scheduled with each student. This will teach each student how to apply what they are learning.

How does the hands-on training work?

As each student nears their first hands-on training, they will be contacted by a PMA Instructor. They will set up the hands-on training about a month in advance to make sure it is being held at a convenient time for the student and the location it is being hosted at. Hands-on training is hosted at the Professional Massage Academy and/or any Massage Envy location within 50 miles of the student. For an example, if you live near Rochester or Duluth MN, your Hands-on training would be held at a sponsoring spa business location in those cities.

How long is the program?

The Online Massage Therapy Program is a 600-hour Program. How long it takes to complete the program depends on the commitment level that the students enroll into. We offer 3 different program commitment levels. These levels indicate how fast paced the program is for each student. A comparison for this would be that as a Full-Time student, you would be taking more classes each semester versus a Part-Time student who would be taking about half the number of classes in a semester. Students in Commitment A usually finish in about 10.5 months, Commitment B is about 7.5 months and Commitment C is about 4.5 to 5 months.

How flexible is this program? 

We created this program specifically to be flexible. We know how busy day to day life can be with jobs, friends and families, so we wanted to make Massage Therapy still attainable for busy adults. As long as you are completing the minimum number of hours for your commitment level, it is specifically designed for you to complete at any time throughout each week. Access to the online program is 24/7 as long as you have internet access and a laptop or computer. 

If you are in Commitment A and have a very hectic week and can only work on the program Friday and Saturday night, you can! If over those 2 days you still do at least 5 hours of work, you will still hit your requirement and be able to proceed onto the next week.

Tuition Assistance

What are the payment options? 

Students have the option of paying for the tuition in full prior to starting the Online Program. We can accept credit/debit, a check or PayPal as a form of payment. If you are not able to pay in full before starting the program, we can also accept monthly payments. In this case, we work with TFC, which is a Tuition Financing Company. Through them we are able to set up payment contracts for during school and after school. We offer up to 30 months of tuition financing. There are no interest fees, no credit check or anything along those lines if you choose to make monthly payments with TFC.

Is tuition assistance available? 

In addition to working with a tuition financing company we also offer a Tuition Reimbursement Program. This program is available after you graduate from the Professional Massage Academy. To qualify, there are a few requirements. First, you must be hired at a participating spa business location; secondly, you must work a minimum of 30 hours a week on average and lastly, you must commit to 2-years of employment with them. Then, over the course of those 2 years, the PMA graduate would receive up to $3,500.00 back in tuition.

Career Placement 

While we do not have a career placement program, we do offer a Tuition Reimbursement program through sponsoring spa business locations across the state. Our Tuition Reimbursement program will help interested students find a location closest to them and host their hands-on training there. This will help the student get acclimated to the clinic, employees and management. All graduating students will still have an interview process as normal with the location.

The Professional Massage Academy

Accreditation

We are licensed by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (MOHE). This means their office has verified that our course catalog and program curriculum meets the National Standard for Massage Therapy. This means that every graduate will be eligible to take the MBLEX, which is a national exam used in 46 states for licensure. While our license from the MOHE holds more weight than accreditation, we are not accredited at this time. An institution like us needs to be open at least 2 years before they are able to apply. Once we are eligible to apply, we will be.

What is the difference between certification and licensure? 

Minnesota is not a licensed massage therapy state. However, some cities and jurisdictions within the state of Minnesota may have local licensing requirements in order to practice massage therapy in those cities. Each Professional Massage Academy (PMA) student that completes their program and graduates will receive a 600 Hour completion Certificate. PMA graduates are Certified Massage Therapists. To become Licensed, each graduate will need to adhere to their cities Licensing requirements for Massage Therapists to become licensed.

Reach out to your local city hall and they will be able to explain what is necessary to become licensed. To provide an example, some cities require a certificate of completion to be sent in, pay a licensing fee and to perform a background check.

Where are we located? 

The Professional Massage Academy is located in Waite Park (St. Cloud) Minnesota. With our Massage Therapy Program being offered online, we have students that live across the entire state of Minnesota.
