Muscles can feel sore or tight for many reasons. The body can react this way due to repetitive strain or overuse, as well as poor posture or positioning, and/or lack of movement. There are many ways to prevent soreness and manage this as well. These are the top ways to prevent and relieve tight muscles.

1. Stretching

Stretching is a great way to help loosen our muscles. This can create a perceived decrease in tightness and even an increase in range of motion. There are many ways to stretch, such as dynamic stretching to increase blood flow and move as well as static stretching with long holds.

2. Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a great way to relieve tight muscles. There are certain techniques that are more effective for reducing tightness, such as deep tissue massage and sports massage therapy. The therapist can also focus their efforts on certain muscles that feel tight or sore.

3. Foam Rolling

Foam rolling is a technique where a person uses a tool that is a piece of foam to roll their body on or along. It is considered a self-mobilization technique, and one can perform this at home. This helps to reduce muscle tightness and soreness as well.

4. Stay Hydrated

Staying properly hydrated is important for our proper muscle functioning. The goal and recommendation for proper hydration is considered half of our body weight in ounces of water per day. The water can also make us feel more energized and allow our organs to work better too.

5. Keep Active

Being active and moving is a great way to keep our body and muscles healthy and feeling great. Walking is a great way to stay consistently active, and this can be 20-30 minutes per day. The recommendation is 150 minutes of physical aerobic exercise per week,  meaning an increase in our heart rate of just 20 beats per minute.
